History of Kakkur Grama Panchayat

Social history: The story behind how the village got the name Kakkur is as follows. Kakkur is the ancestral home of the Panasi community living near present-day Kakkurangadi. In the past, the Panas were renowned magicians. They were appointed by the king to protect the land from ghosts, spirits, and demons. In the sense that they protected the land, they were called 'those who protect the village,' and over time, this term fell into disuse, leading to the name Kakkur. In ancient times, people from various parts of the land used to come to Kakkur in search of magicians, that is, to the Panas' homes. Gradually, the name of the house became the name of the village. In the past, various castes and occupational communities were classified into numerous complex hierarchies. The Brahmins and Kshatriyas owned most of the land. Caste names also existed based on occupations.
